High & Low - An aerial view of prehistoric hill forts across Fife & Angus

An exhibition of my aerial photographs - including images from a kite platfrom, light aircraft, and computer generated orthographic views by Susie Green - is now open at Falkland Estate. The opening event last month was an enjoyable evening with lots of good questions and discussion.

The exhibition is open 10am - 4pm during the week and has been extended until further notice!

You are invited to a presentation of aerial photography and computer generated imagery of prehistoric hill forts across Fife and Angus by Kieran Baxter.

Launch event and talk - Tuesday 16th July, 7pm. Take a fly-through of the local prehistoric landscape and follow a visual journey exploring image capture and processing techniques, from kite flying to computer generated environments. All welcome, refreshments provided.

Free exhibition - Now extended until further notice! Pop in any time between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. The exhibition is held in the Horse Stalls, Falkland Centre for Stewardship - 01337 858838.

This showcase features unique views of hill forts spanning from East Lomond hill above Falkland in Fife, to the Caterthuns nearby Bechin in Angus. Often passed-by but sometimes difficult to appreciate from the ground, these prehistoric banked enclosures are intriguing because of their form and longevity. Part of a PhD investigation by Kieran Baxter, this exploration looks at how our appreciation of these sites and landscapes is mediated through different types of image. Using high and low altitude aerial photography along with state-of-the-art digital imaging techniques in collaboration with Susie Green from University College London, this presentation of imagery ranges from the archaeological to the cinematic.

This exhibition is run in partnership with Falkland Centre for Stewardship and the Living Lomonds project.
Kieran Baxter's PhD is supported by DJCAD and AHRC. This project is generously facilitated by Historic Scotland.
